祝！令和初！世界遺産登録　百舌鳥（もず）・古市古墳群

The first UNESCO World Heritage Registration Committee will be held on June 30th for the first time in Reiwa.

令和になってはや１ヶ月以上過ぎましたね！
令和初のユネスコ世界遺産登録委員会が６月30日に開かれます。

At that time, it is the world heritage registration of Mozu and Furuichi burial mounds that go up to the agenda!
But what are the Mozu and furuichi burial mounds? I think many people have the question that.
Therefore, I will tell you about the topic of registration of the world heritage for the first time in Reiwa , today.

そのときに議題に上るのが、百舌鳥・古市古墳群の世界遺産登録です！
でも、百舌鳥・古市古墳群ってなあに？という疑問をお持ちの方も多いかと思います。
そこで令和初の世界遺産の登録、今日はその話題についてお伝えしていきます。

What are Mozu and Furuichi burial mounds?
百舌鳥・古市古墳群とは？

The Mozu and Furuichi burial mounds are the Japan’s largest tomb group that extends to Sakai, Habikino and Fujiidera cities in Osaka Prefecture.
It consists of the King’s Tomb from the end of the 4th century to the end of the 5th Century, and the tombs of those who served for the King.
There are 89 old tombs that can be checked at present, and it is believed that there are actually many more tombs.（around 200 tombs)

百舌鳥・古市古墳群は大阪府の堺市、羽曳野市、藤井寺市に広がる日本最大の古墳群です。
4世紀末から5世紀の終わりごろまでの大王墓と、大王に仕えた人の墓で構成されています。
現在確認できる古墳は８９基で、本当はもっとたくさんの古墳があったとされています。（２００基ほど）

What was the time when this old tomb groups were created? I can explain like…
The power of the Yamato administration, which emerged in the Yamato region of Nara Prefecture, is increasing, and it is a time when the rule was spreading from Kyushu to Tohoku-area.
You may think what the Yamato administration is.
You can see in the explanation of the union government with the powerful families centered on the royal family (the emperor family).

この古墳群が出来たころの時代はどんなだったか？と言いますと・・・・
奈良県の大和地方に出現した大和政権の権力が増してゆき、その支配が九州から東北まで及びつつあった時代なのですね。
大和政権ってなんだ？と疑問に思いますよね・・・。

王家（天皇家）を中心とした豪族たちとの連合政権、との説明でおわかりでしょうか(^O^)／

In other words, the Japanese archipelago, which was a gathering of many small countries,
It is the Kofun period that started as a nation.
Its start as a nation and the emergence of giant burial mounds of the Mozu and the Furuichi coincide at the same time!

言い換えれば、たくさんの小さい国の集まりだった日本列島が、
1つの国家としてスタートしたのが古墳時代なのですね。
その国家としてのスタートと、百舌鳥・古市古墳群の巨大古墳の出現は時を同じくするのですね！

The world’s largest burial mound, the emperor Nintoku’s tomb (Daisen burial mound)
世界最大の古墳、仁徳天皇陵（大山古墳）

The largest among the Mozu and Furuichi Ancient Tombs is Daisen burial mound which is considered to be the emperor Nintoku’s tomb.
Oh! The length of the hill is 486 meters. It’s about half a kilometer.

百舌鳥・古市古墳群の中で一番大きいのは仁徳天皇陵とされる、大山古墳です。
なんと！墳丘の長さが486メートルあるんですね・・・・・。ほぼ1キロメートルの半分です。

This is too big, so If you look at the old burial mound closer
You may think like “What mountain or forest is it?”
It’s too big to get the whole picture at all….

ここまで大きいと、近くによって古墳をみても、
「なんのお山か、森だろう？」という感じなのですね・・・・・。
大きすぎて全容が全く掴めないのです( ;∀;)

The best recommendation is to go to Yao Airport in Yao City, Osaka Prefecture.
You should taking part in a tour overlooking the tombs in Cessna.
You can not understand the old burial mounds if you can not see from the sky.

一番のおススメは大阪府八尾市の八尾空港に行き、
セスナで古墳を見下ろすツアーに参加することです。
上空から見ないと古墳だってわからないのですね・・・・。

In fact, it is said that the Nintoku emperor’s tomb is one of the three major ancient tombs in the world.
One is the pyramid of King Khufu in Egypt.
One is the tomb of the first Emperor of Qin in China.

仁徳天皇陵は実は、世界３大古墳の１つとも言われるのです。
１つはエジプトのクフ王のピラミッド。
１つは中国の秦の始皇帝の墓。

All are huge, but when comparing only the surface area,the Nintoku Emperor’s tomb is No. 1.
However the height is lost to the pyramid.

どれも巨大なのですが、表面積だけを比較すると
仁徳天皇陵がダントツ１位なのです。
ただし高さはピラミッドに負けています(;’∀’)
