前方後円墳が古代日本で、最も有名な墳墓なのですね！
今日の謎は、その前方後円墳についてです。
さあ、歴史ミステリーの扉を開けてみましょう！
When did the zenpo-koenfun ( square-headed and circle-tailed burial mounds ) appear?
前方後円墳が出現したのはいつ？
The zenpo-koenfun has a square shape at the front.
And, it was the rule that the deceased was buried in the circular hills behind.
We often express the tombs as ” keyhole-shape”.
前方後円墳は、フロントが四角い形をしています。
そして、後ろの円形の墳丘に埋葬するのがルールなのですね。
よく前方後円墳のことを「鍵穴の形」と表現します。

箸墓古墳には誰が眠っているのか？
The person buried in the Hashihaka Tomb are still the mystery,

箸墓古墳の被葬者は未だミステリーなのですが、この古墳を卑弥呼の墓である、と考える研究者もいます。

日本書紀の箸墓伝説

さて、『日本書紀』は箸墓古墳の伝説を伝えています。
…..Yamatototomomosohime, she became Ohmononushi’s wife,

倭迹迹日百襲姫命（やまとととひももそひめ）、大物主（おおものぬしのかみ）の妻となったが、

Ohmononushi answered.
大物主は「よくわかった。明日、あなたの櫛笥(くしげ）に入っていましょう。どうか、私の姿に驚かないでください。」と答えた。

ここで、倭迹迹姫命はどういうことかと怪しんだが、朝を待って、櫛笥（くしげ）を開けてみた。

櫛笥（くしげ）にはなんと、美しい小さい蛇がいたのである。
その長さと太さは衣紐（きぬひも）ぐらいであった。
She shouted astonished to it.
倭迹迹姫命は、それに驚いて叫んだ。
He was ashamed of the snake’s appearance, turned into a human form, and told his wife.
“You did not keep what I had said, and you made me shameful.
I will give shame to you in return. “
And he ran up the sky and climbed up to the Mt.Mimoro.
彼は、蛇になった自分の姿を恥じて、人の形に戻って言った。
「あなたは私の言ったことを守らなかった、そしてあなたは私に恥をかかせた。
私は仕返しとして、あなたに恥をかかせよう。」
そして大空を駆け上って、御諸山に登ってしまった。
When she saw this, she regrettedly sat down.
At that time the chopsticks stuck in her genital region and she died.
Then she was buried in Ohichi.
倭迹迹姫命がこれを見ると、悔やみ、座り込んでしまった。
そのときに箸で陰（ほと）を突いて亡くなってしまったのである。
そうして大市に葬られた。
People named this tomb Hashihaka.
人は、この墓を箸墓と名付けた。
